Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Installs Founding Members at AASU

Savannah, GA—July 6, 2005—Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., recently installed the founding members of the Sigma Tau Chapter at Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU). The sorority is an international organization of college and graduate women whose purpose is to encourage scholarship, friendship, and service. Founded in 1908 at Howard University, Washington, D.C., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is the oldest sorority founded by women of African descent.

The chapter was chartered by the South Atlantic Regional Director, Mrs. Irene Westbrook McCollom. The charter members are as follows: Brianna Bellamy, Dekira Bowe, Andrea Carter, Rena Dixon, Carnika Donald, Misty Ellison, Iris Frye, Albertina Ivy, Krystle Johnson, Tonetta Ray, Amanda Robinson, Tameka Rucks, Salaia Sifford, Janice Smith and Deidre Stephens.
