AASU to Host Basketball Game to Raise Funds for the Safe Shelter

Savannah, GA—November 5, 2003—Armstrong Atlantic State University faculty and students will compete in a basketball game on November 14 to raise funds for S.A.F.E. Shelter in Savannah. The doors open at 6 p.m., with tip-off beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the university’s Aquatic Center. Tickets are $5 for the general public. A live band will perform during the game and half-time entertainment will be provided by Paul Reeves. Door prizes will be given away during half time.

All of the proceeds will be given to S.A.F.E. Shelter, a private non-profit organization that provides temporary shelter and confidential services to victims of domestic violence. S.A.F.E. Shelter seeks to decrease the level of domestic violence in Chatham County and offer services to deal with the effects of domestic violence when it occurs.

The Economics Club, an affiliate of the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), is sponsoring the game. The club offers students the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills through learning, practicing and teaching the principles of free enterprise. SIFE is a global, non-profit organization with affiliation in more than 1,500 university campuses in 37 countries.
