AASU 's Establishes Margaret Mary Brown Parker Honors Scholarship

Savannah, GA— Armstrong Atlantic State University has established the Margaret Mary Brown Parker Honors Scholarship to provide financial support to students in the Honors Program. A scholarship will be awarded annually to a qualified student.

The scholarship fund was created in memory of Margaret Mary Brown Parker, who is survived by her husband, John W. Parker, Jr., and their two children, Pamela E. Parker (class of 1984) and John K. Parker. Mrs. Parker is described as a dedicated mother who fostered academic excellence in her children.

"It is a fitting tribute to my mother that she is honored by this scholarship fund," said Pam Parker. "It will reward a student who exemplifies her strong work ethic, perseverance, and love of knowledge."

Mrs. Parker was a native Savannahian and an active member of the Irish community. She graduated third in her class from St. Vincent's Academy in 1960. After marrying, she worked as an executive secretary for the Social Security Administration, Georgia Ports Authority, and Union Camp.

After time away to volunteer and travel, Mrs. Parker returned to work in 1980. She joined Armstrong State College as a part-time secretary and ultimately served as the secretary to the vice president and dean of faculty until her retirement in1993.

AASU is currently accepting contributions to the Margaret Mary Brown Parker Scholarship. For details about the scholarship fund, contact Letty Shearer in External Affairs at 921.5967.
