AASU Student Affiliate Chapter of ACS Receives Outstanding Award Savannah, GAThe American Chemical Society (ACS) has given an outstanding award to Armstrong Atlantic State University's Student Affiliates of the ACS for activities conducted during the 2001-2002 academic year. It was one of the thirty-one chapters chosen to receive this honor out of 950 chapters at colleges and universities in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Armstrong Atlantic's Student Affiliates of the ACS was founded in 1983 to promote an exchange between students studying chemistry and the chemical sciences. The chapter also provides outreach to the community through volunteer projects in schools and participation each year in National Chemistry Week. The ACS Student Affiliates program supports undergraduate students, their faculty, and local section members in promoting professional development, mentoring, and peer-support mechanisms for those majoring in the chemical sciences. Student affiliates allow students to get the professional edge by networking with top professionals, attending scientific meetings, and directly accessing research.
