World Scout Foundation Honors AASU's Pete Mastopoulos(Savannah, GA-December 13, 2006) The World Scout Foundation recently inducted Peter Mastopoulos of Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) into its Baden-Powell Fellowship. The distinction is given to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the World Scout Foundation to help support scouting around the world. Mastopoulos, a native and lifetime resident of Savannah, received the honor from King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and William F. Cronk, president of the Boy Scouts of America, during a recent ceremony in San Francisco, CA. Mastopoulos' involvement with the Boy Scouts goes back 28 years when he was a boy growing up in Savannah. "I benefited so much from it and I wanted to give back," he said. As the current international representative for the Savannah Boy Scout Council, Mastopoulos helped develop an association with the Saint Petersburg, Russia Boy Scouts. That led each group to host one another in their home cities. Mastopoulos also has served on the Boy Scouts Savannah District Board of Directors and as commissioner, as well as a troop leader. He joined Armstrong Atlantic 12 years ago and is currently assistant director of continuing education. He is a member of the AASU Staff Advisory Council and was awarded the Student Government Association Service Award in 2001. Mastopoulos holds a bachelor's degree from AASU, a master's degree from Central Michigan University, and an education specialist degree from Georgia Southern University. |
