Visiting Authors at AASU November 19 - 20


(Savannah, GA, November 13, 2007) Armstrong Atlantic State University will host two nationally noted authors on November 19 and 20.

Author Nance Van Winckel will read from her works at 12:10 p.m., Monday, November 19, in Science Center 1402.

Poet Leigh Anne Couch will read at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20 in the Armstrong Center Ballroom B.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Nance Van Winckel has published three books of short fiction, most recently Curtain Creek Farm (Persea Books, 2000), and is the recipient of a 2005 Christopher Isherwood Fiction Fellowship and the Patterson Fiction Award. Also a poet, Van Winckels fifth collection of poetry is No Starling (University of Washington Press, 2007). She teaches in the master's of fine arts programs at Eastern Washington University and Vermont College.

Armstrong Atlantic's Department of Languages, Literature, and Philosophy will host Van Winckel as part of the 2007 Visiting Writing Series. For more information on her reading, contact James Smith at 912.921.5633.

Leigh Anne Couch is the author of Green and Helpless, a chapbook published by Finishing Line Press. Her newest book, Houses Fly Away, was published by Zone 3 Press in fall 2007. Her poems have appeared in the Western Humanities Review, Shenandoah, 32 Poems, Alaska Quarterly Review, Blackbird, Carolina Quarterly, and other journals.

Couch lives in Tennessee and is the managing editor of the Sewanee Review. She has held residency fellowships at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and the Kimmel-Harding Nelson Center for the Arts.
