SGA Senator Invited to the White House(February 27, 2008) Chris Nowicki, a junior at Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU), traveled to Washington, D.C. in February where he was a guest of President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush in the White House. Nowicki, of Franklin, GA, joined other 200 guests who were honored at a reception for their participation in Helping America's Youth, an initiative spearheaded by the First Lady since 2005. A senator in the Armstrong Atlantic Student Government Association, Nowicki has been a facilitator and speaker for the Helping America's Youth Initiative since 2006. Last summer he was invited by the First Lady to speak before 300 government officials during a youth-adult partnership conference in Denver, CO. Nowicki is passionate about involving young people with their community to resolve the problems of drug use and violence. His career goal is to work in government helping to forge youth-adult partnerships. He began his involvement in youth development work with the 4H program. He was a keynote speaker at the national 4H conference in New York in 2006 and in California in 2007. He was invited back as a capstone speaker for the 2008 conference. Nowicki volunteers with the Savannah Chapter of the American Red Cross. Last year he was honored as the Red Cross Volunteer of the Month. "It was a great experience not only because of the opportunity to visit The White House at the invitation of the president," Nowicki said. "But also because it's a great privilege to be with other individuals from across the country who share a passion to work with youth to help them learn the skills they need to become successful in life." |
