Registration is Open for School of Computing Quiz Bowl
(December 7, 2007) Armstrong Atlantic State University's (AASU) School of Computing invites high schools in Georgia and South Carolina to register for the 5th Annual AASU School of Computing Quiz Bowl. Registration deadline is Friday, January 25.
An application form can be found at http://computing.armstrong.edu/quizbowl. Completed forms can be emailed to or faxed to 912.921.5606. If emailing, please include "Quiz Bowl Registration" in the subject line.
Competition will take place on Saturday, February 2, starting at 8:30 a.m. on AASU's campus, 11935 Abercorn Street.
Each high school may register up to 12 potential student participants. At competition time, each school may have up to three, three-player teams. Team rosters collected on competition day will be final.
Charles Gray, executive producer for new media at WTOC, will serve as host.
Competition will involve three rounds: individual test-taking, group problem-solving, and a game show-style tournament hosted by Gray. Questions will cover computer science and information technology.
The grand prize for the overall individual winner will be a Nintendo Wii system.
Prizes will be awarded to the overall top four teams. In addition, four more prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each of the following categories: business/computer applications, logic/math, programming/algorithms, and computer culture/Internet.
All participants will receive a free T-shirt and a certificate of participation. The first 10 teachers or chaperones to register and bring a team will receive a $50 stipend.
