Rago to Present Faculty Lecture February 8

(January 18, 2008) Jane V. Rago, AASU temporary assistant professor of English, will discuss the impact of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution on Western thought. The lecture is at 12:10 p.m., Friday, February 8 in University Hall 156, on the AASU campus, 11935 Abercorn Street.

The event is free and open to the public. "Heavenly Genes: Eugenic Motherhood and the Rebirth of a Nation" is part of the 2007-2008 AASU Robert I. Strozier Faculty Lecture Series.

Rago will explore the impact of Darwinian theory on the Victorian culture, exploring the concept of "civic motherhood" advocated by New Women writers as they used evolutionary theory to grant scientific authority to their polemics.
