Poetry Society of Georgia Reading is April 21


(April 14, 2009) The Poetry Society of Georgia 2008-2009 reading series culminates with a reading by Joseph Harrison at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 21 at the Ola Wyeth Branch Library, 4 E. Bay Street. The event is free and the public is invited.

Joseph Harrison's first book of poems, Someone Else's Name was published in 2004 by Waywiser Press. It was named poetry book of the year by The Washington Post. His second book of poems, Identity Theft, was published by Waywiser in the spring of 2008.

Harrison's poems have appeared in journals such as The Antioch Review, Boston Review, The Kenyon Review, The Missouri Review, Parnassus, The Paris Review, Raritan, The Sewanee Review, and The Yale Review. His work has been anthologized in The Best American Poetry 1998, 180 More Extraordinary Poems for Every Day, the Library of America's American Religious Poems, and in the forthcoming edition of Penguins Poetry: A Pocket Anthology.

Southern Poetry Review, Armstrong Atlantic State University's Department of Language, Literature, and Philosophy and the Grassroots Arts Program sponsor this series. The Grassroots Arts Program is supported in part by the Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly and administered by the City of Savannah's Department of Cultural Affairs. GCA is a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the arts.
