ODK, National Leadership Honor Society, Chartered at AASU; Induction Set for April 6


Savannah, GA - April 6, 2006 - Twenty-one Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) students, along with AASU President Thomas Z. Jones and five other members of the university's administration and faculty, were inducted as charter members of the university's Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) circle, the national leadership honor society, in ceremonies on the AASU campus April 6.

The ceremony was held in the University Dining Hall in Memorial College Center and was followed by a reception.

To fill the inaugural membership of the honor society, nominations of eligible students were sought from AASU faculty. With the launch of Armstrong Atlantic's ODK circle, future members will be selected through a combination of nominations and self-application. Membership is open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty, staff, administration, and alumni. Students must be in their junior or senior year and perform in the top 35 percent of their class academically. They must also display leadership in at least one of five areas:
  • scholarship;
  • athletics;
  • campus or community service, social and religious activities, and campus government;
  • journalism, speech and the mass media; and
  • creative and performing arts.


In addition to Jones, the administration and faculty inductees were: James Anderson, assistant to the vice president of academic affairs for international education; Joseph Buck, vice president for student affairs; William P. Kelso, assistant vice president for student affairs; Robin D. Jones, assistant director of student activities; and Lynn M. Stover, assistant professor of nursing. Stover will serve as the circles faculty advisor, and Jones will be the faculty secretary.
