Kappa Sigma, National Fraternity, Established at AASUSavannah, GA - April 20, 2006- Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) initiated its first membership class into the Kappa Sigma Fraternity earlier this month. The ceremony marked completion of a two-year preparation to establish the fraternity and align it with Kappa Sigma's national standards. Kappa Sigma bills itself as the largest fraternity in the world, with roots dating back to Italy in the early 1400's. The fraternity's American founding was at the campus of the University of Virginia in 1869. With more than 200 chapters spanning North America, Kappa Sigma sets high standards for its undergraduates. The AASU group, now known as the Omicron Iota chapter of Kappa Sigma, has now met all those standards. Preston Futrell was recognized as the fraternity's president and model initiate at the initiation banquet. H. Phillip Bell IV, the fraternity's national vice president, was among those in attendance, and he spoke about Kappa Sigma's importance to the undergraduates and alumni. Robbie Rentfrow, DGM, and Clayton Albright, Colony Development Manager, who were instrumental in the final stages of the colony's development, were also on hand. Armstrong Atlantic now has seven national Greek organizations on campus, with another fraternity in the formative stages. |
