Jane T. Barnard Presents Faculty Lecture March 28

(March 21, 2008) Jane T. Barnard, associate professor of mathematics at Armstrong Atlantic State University, will discuss how to enrich classroom experiences and motivate students to better appreciate and understand mathematics. The lecture is Friday, March 28, at 12:10 p.m., in University Hall 156 on the AASU campus, 11935 Abercorn Street.

"Georgia on My Mathematical Mind" is part of the 2007-2008 AASU Robert I. Strozier Faculty Lecture Series. All lectures are free and open to the public.

Barnard will share some of the favorite mathematical photos she has encountered throughout the state of Georgia. From Atlanta to historic Savannah, from the marshes of Glynn County to fields, lakes, and mountains across the state, mathematics is encountered everyday, no matter where one lives. Photos of such encounters can become the basis of interesting and engaging conversations and questions. Teachers can make their classes come alive by assisting students as they discover mathematics in the world around them.
