High School Students Kickoff SCORE at AASU

(November 27, 2007) More than 175 students from the seven Savannah-Chatham high schools came together at Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) to celebrate the start of the Savannah-Chatham Organization for Recruiting Educators (SCORE) on November 28.

The project, under the umbrella of Phi Delta Kappa International's Future Education Association, promotes teaching as a promising and prestigious career option for high school students. Phi Delta Kappa is an advocate of public schools in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia.

Each high school in the Savannah-Chatham district now has a club at its school for students who have made a commitment to pursuing a teaching degree.

The visiting high school students participated in team-building exercises, and attended workshops on work ethics, higher education options, and the requirements for teacher certification.

The students toured Armstrong Atlantic's College of Education and the student residence halls. AASU education students served as tour guides

Dr. Evelyn Dandy, a former faculty member in AASU's College of education, delivered the keynote address. Another former AASU faculty member, Ola Lewis, also addressed the high school students.

PDK is a dedicated advocate for the public schools, with more than 600 chapters in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.
