Free Screening of Ulysses(Savannah, GA, June 4, 2007) Armstrong Atlantic State University's (AASU) Irish Studies Club will mark Bloomsday with a screening of "Ulysses," at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 16, in Gamble Hall 200 on the AASU campus, 11935 Abercorn Street. The event is free and open to the public. Bloomsday is an annual celebration among James Joyce fans throughout the world. Joyce's novel "Ulysses" recounts the hour-by-hour events of one day in Dublin - June 16, 1904 - as an ordinary Dubliner, Leopold Bloom, winds his way through the urban landscape. In the film, Stephen Daedalus, a poet, finds friendship and a father figure in Bloom, a middle-aged Jew. The AASU Irish Studies Club meets periodically for lectures on Irish literature, films, history, and politics. It is open to those in the community interested in Irish culture.
