Financial Literacy Seminars at AASU April 17

(April 13, 2009) Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) will host two financial seminars on April 17. "Your Credit Life Story" and "Tackling Debt" will be offered at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively in room 126 in the Armstrong Center, 13040 Abercorn Street. The seminars are free and the public is invited.

AASU, the National Student Loan Program (NSLP), the Georgia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and the Georgia Consortium for Personal Financial Literacy are teaming during Georgia Financial Literacy Week to provide college students and residents across the state with information and tools they need to make good financial decisions. Throughout the week of April 13, NSLP's accredited financial counselors will present financial literacy seminars at seven college campuses across Georgia.

The goal of Georgia Financial Literacy Week is to enhance the money management skills of college students and raise public awareness about the importance of a sound financial education for young adults.

"Now more than ever it is critically important that students are well informed and have the tools they need in order to be able to make good financial decisions," said Lee Ann Kirkland, AASU director of financial aid. "We're also inviting the community to attend because we realize that these seminars can provide very powerful information to our citizens at no cost to them."

The National Student Loan Program sponsors financial literacy events in April for Georgia college students. The weeklong event is part of Georgia Financial Literacy Month, an annual April initiative organized by the Georgia Consortium for Personal Financial Literacy.
