Campus Traffic Flow Along Abercorn Changing

(May 9, 2008) As part of the Abercorn Street/Arts Drive intersection improvement project, the Burnett Hall entrance to the Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) campus will be permanently closed starting Tuesday, May 13, 2008.

This intersection improvement project converts the Abercorn Street/Arts Drive intersection into a full traffic signaled intersection that will allow left and right turns onto Abercorn Street from Arts Drive. In addition, westbound traffic on Abercorn will be able to enter the campus via Arts Drive. The project, expected to be completed within 90 days, is the result of a partnership between the Georgia Department of Transportation, the City of Savannah, and AASU.

The Chatham Area Transit (CAT) bus stop at the entrance to the campus near Burnett Hall is being temporarily relocated to Burnett Boulevard, a stretch of road on the campus parallel to Abercorn Street. The temporary bus stop will be directly in front of Burnett Hall. CAT buses eastbound on Abercorn Street will start using this temporary bus stop starting Tuesday, May 13.

Buses will enter the AASU campus from Science Drive, turn left onto Burnett Boulevard, stop for passenger pickup/drop off in front of Burnett Hall, and exit the campus via Arts Drive onto eastbound Abercorn Street. This temporary CAT route will remain in effect until the Abercorn Street/Arts Drive intersection improvement project is complete. At that time, CAT will reestablish a bus stop on Abercorn Street in front of the AASU campus.
