Assistant Dean of Health Professions Receives AwardSavannah, GA--October 13, 2005--Marilyn Buck, assistant dean of the College of Health Professions, has received a Georgia Medical Society Health Care Heroes Award in the Health Care Innovations category for her work in tobacco prevention in the Savannah community. As chair of both Partners for Community Health and the Chatham/Effingham Tobacco Use Prevention Coalition, she has been involved in conducting research and developing programs to increase the awareness of the dangers of tobacco use, prevent youth initiation of tobacco use, reduce the exposure to secondhand smoke, and promote cessation of tobacco use. Buck was presented with a Waterford crystal bowl at an awards banquet at the Alee Shrine Temple Annex last month. Buck's career at Armstrong Atlantic spans over 32 years. During her tenure, she has served as assistant dean of the College of Health Professions and head of the nursing department. She also has been involved in numerous campus activities and has served on a number of college and university committees. Buck earned nursing degrees from Boston University and Medical College of Georgia, and a doctorate in health education administration from the University of South Carolina. |
