Armstrong Atlantic's Brennan Named President of Georgia Council for Exceptional ChildrenSavannah, GA - April 13, 2006 - J. Patrick Brennan II, an assistant professor at Armstrong Atlantic State University, has been named president of the Georgia Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). Brennan is a veteran educator who has logged more than seven years in public schools in Florida and Georgia and five years in higher education settings in Mississippi and Georgia. He holds master's degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) in special education and technical education. His doctorate, also from USM, is in mild disabilities with a minor in instructional technology. The Council for Exceptional Children is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and/or the gifted. The organization advocates for government policies, sets professional standards, provides professional development opportunities, and advocates on behalf of underserved individuals with exceptionalities. The CEC also helps professionals work for conditions and resources necessary for effective professional practice. "I see CEC as the best hope for addressing public school problems with special needs students," Brennan said. Brennan has been a member of the National Council for Exceptional Children for 15 years, and a member of its state counterpart for 10. His elected term as president of the Georgia chapter runs through 2006. He hopes to launch a Savannah area chapter. |
