Armstrong students past and present teach pre-schoolers Spanish

Savannah, GA--December 8, 2005--Jingle Bells may have a distinctive south of the border sound when an Armstrong State College alumna teams up with a current student to teach Spanish songs to pre-school children at the Southern Montessori Academy.

Myrtle Kimball, who graduated with a degree in education from Armstrong State College in 1969, has been volunteering at the academy for the past two months. With years of travel to Spanish-speaking countries under her belt, Kimball teaches Spanish to the school's four-year-olds. She is proud of the fact that they have already learned the Spanish words for colors and numbers.

On Tuesday, December 13, Nancy Urcuhuavanga, a current Armstrong Atlantic State University student, will join Kimball in her volunteerism. Urcuhuavanga, a senior Spanish major from Peru, will assist by reinforcing Kimball's earlier lessons with songs in Spanish. In keeping with the season, her music lesson will also include Jingle Bells.

The Southern Montessori Academy is located at 1140 Shannon Avenue. The street is located beside Carey Hilliards on Waters Avenue.
