Main PageAASU to rededicate Lane Library(Savannah, GA - October 23, 2006) Following more than a year of extensive remodeling, Armstrong Atlantic State University's (AASU) Lane Library will be rededicated on Wednesday, October 25, at noon. The event will begin in front of the newly refurbished library with a ceremony that will include remarks by President Thomas Z. Jones and Douglas Frazier, interim university librarian and head of technical services. The program will then move inside for the dedication of an instructional classroom in honor of the late Ben Lee, dean of library services. Lee passed away in May 2006 after 25 years of service with the Lane Library. Former AASU Interim President Frank Butler, now vice chancellor for academic, faculty and student affairs with the University System of Georgia, will speak. A portrait of Lee by local artist and AASU alumna Sandra Colquitt will also be unveiled. The building, among the first constructed on the campus in 1966, includes 50,000 square feet of space redesigned for a more attractive and efficient twenty-first century library. It includes 64 public access computers, new furniture, expanded space for university archives, and a new special collections room. In addition to the instructional classroom, there are six group study rooms and six meeting rooms. Improved, energy efficient lighting has been installed throughout the building. |
