AASU to host Pulitzer Prize winner Thomas Friedman


Savannah, GA—March 14, 2006—Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU), in collaboration with other educational, research, and economic development organizations, will co-host a luncheon featuring three-time Pulitzer Prize winning author Thomas L. Friedman. He will speak on Friday March 31 at 12:30 p.m. the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center during the 24th annual Inc. 500 conference.

Friedman is The New York Times Editorial Page editor and the best selling author of The World is Flat: A Brief History of the 21st Century and The Lexus and the Olive Tree. His foreign affairs column, which appears twice a week in the Times, is syndicated to seven hundred other newspapers worldwide. Friedman won the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for commentary, his third Pulitzer for The New York Times.

Thomas Z. Jones, president of Armstrong Atlantic, said, "In addition to benefiting immensely from Mr. Friedmans insights, we will use this occasion to thank Georgia companies, including the companies comprising the Georgia Allies, UPS, and JC Bamford Excavators for their support of our community's efforts to showcase our state and city to guests of the Inc. 500 conference."

AASUs partners in this program include the Savannah Economic Development Authority, the Creative Coast initiative, the Georgia Ports Authority, Georgia Tech-Savannah, the Maritime Logistics Innovation Center, the Savannah College of Art and Design, Georgia Southern University, the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, Savannah State University, the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography, the Herty Advanced Materials Development Center, Savannah Technical College and the Savannah Council of World Affairs.

Net proceeds from the event will support Savannah's mission to communicate with Inc. 500's conferees and other similar community development and leadership initiatives.
