Main Page Contact Francisco Duque, 912.961.3173 For Immediate Release AASU to Offer Master of Arts in Teaching Degrees(Savannah, GA- March 29, 2007) Armstrong Atlantic State University's (AASU) College of Education will offer three new Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degrees starting in the summer of 2007. The new degrees will allow students with a bachelor's degree in a certifiable area of study to pursue a graduate degree and obtain initial teacher certification. The 33 credit-hour programs are designed to be completed in as few as 15 months if enrolled on a full-time basis and will be offered by three departments: Early Childhood Education, Middle Grades Education, and Special Education. "This is an exciting and affordable opportunity to enter into a very rewarding profession," said Jane McHaney, dean of the College of Education. "The careful design of these degree programs targets teachers who currently have a non-renewable license as well as individuals seeking to change careers and enter the teaching profession." AASU's College of Education will host three, one-hour information sessions about the MAT programs. The sessions will consist of a general session, followed by smaller breakout discussions to provide specific information from the three departments. The scheduled dates/times for the information sessions are: Wednesday, April 11, at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 2 at 5:30 p.m. All sessions will take place in the Armstrong Center, 13040 Abercorn Street (southeast corner of Abercorn Street and Apache Avenue).
