AASU to Hold Commencement Ceremonies Dec. 8(Savannah, GA, November 20, 2007) Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) will hold two commencement ceremonies on Saturday, December 8, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Alumni Arena on the AASU campus, 11935 Abercorn Street, in Savannah. More than 600 candidates receiving undergraduate and graduate degrees are expected to be on hand for the event. During dual ceremonies, AASU will bestow a posthumous Honorary Doctor of Letters upon Nicholas (Nick) John Mamalakis, former university supporter, civic leader, and recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for outstanding national service. Mamalakis, the son of Greek immigrants, died on June 15, 2005 at the age of 91. Ceremonies for the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Computing will be held at 10 a.m. The College of Health Professions and the College of Education will have a 1 p.m. ceremony. AASU President Thomas Z. Jones and senior members of the university faculty and administration will be on hand to confer degrees. Spencer Hoynes, Class of '70 and president of the AASU Alumni Association, will present the alumni welcome to the new graduates. The AASU Brass Ensemble, conducted by Mark B. Johnson, will lead the processional and perform the university alma mater. |
