Main PageAASU to Host 10th Annual Americas Conference(Savannah, GA-January 26) Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) will host the 10th annual Americas Conference on February 9-10 in Solms Hall on the AASU campus, 11935 Abercorn Street. The conference is open to the public. A fee of $10 covers all lectures and presentations for the two days. More than 50 speakers from Georgia, South Carolina, New York, Argentina, Mexico and Trinidad will provide lectures and panel presentations. Norma Gonzalez, executive director of the U.S. Argentina Fulbright Program in Buenos Aires, will deliver the keynote address during the general session starting at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 10. Other international lecturers will include Silvina Eckhartd, exchange coordinator at the Catholic University of Salta, Argentina; Susan Chase, president of the Chase Foundation, Cordoba, Argentina; Gonzalo Paz, a Fulbright Scholar from Buenos Aires who is currently in residence at George Washington University; Jose Vargas-Hernandez, economics professor, Instituto Tecnol#243;gico de Guzm#225;n, Mexico; and Lilieth Bailey, professor, University of West Indies, Trinidad. The Americas Council of the University System of Georgia provides an annual conference for presenters and participants to explore critical socio-cultural, political, economic, global, regional and national issues including the challenges and opportunities facing Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada. While the focus of this conference is primarily for collegiate faculty, secondary school faculty, students, and members of the Savannah community are encouraged to participate. The Americas Council and the Office of International Education for the University System of Georgia are sponsors of this event.
