AASU's Thomas to lecture on Kazakhstan

Savannah, GA-January 5, 2006-Patrick Thomas of the Department of Middle/Secondary Education at Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU), will give a lecture on "Kazakhstan: Land in the Middle," as part of the Robert Ingram Strozier Faculty Lecture Series on January 27. The lecture will begin at noon in room 156 of University Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Kazakhstan is a country caught in the middle between its Asian and Muslim roots, and its desire to be part of the western economic community. This presentation will look at the changes that have been happening in this Central Asian Republic since it became independent from the Soviet Union in 1991. Kazakhstan is a nation with great mineral wealth and a desire to use this wealth to move into the 21st century in business and education. The presentation will also look at the diversity that makes up this nation. There are 126 different ethnic groups represented in Kazakhstan.
