AASU's Fertig to lecture on Edinburgh

Savannah, GA-March 6, 2006-Barbara Fertig of the Department of History at Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU), will give a lecture on "Edinburgh, David Hume, and Where I Live," as part of the Robert Ingram Strozier Faculty Lecture Series March 24. The lecture will begin at 12:15 in room 156 of University Hall. It is free and open to the public.

New Town, the 18th Century planned development in Edinburgh, Scotland, and the historic district of Savannah have much in common. David Hume moved from the medieval town near Edinburgh castle to one of the first buildings built in New Town. He said it was because his new digs had a better kitchen, but Fertig will attempt to prove that the plan of New Town matched not only his intellectual landscape, but Oglethorpes as well.
