AASU Presents "A Question of Color"

Savannah, GA—February 8, 2006—Armstrong Atlantic State University's (AASU) Office of Minority Affairs will present the film, "A Question of Color," on February 27. As part of African American History Month, the film being shown is a documentary confronting the disturbing feeling many African Americans harbor about themselves and their appearance. The showing will begin at 7 p.m. in room 156 of AASU's University Hall. It is free and open to the public.

African American filmmaker Kathe Sandler digs into the often subconscious world of "color consciousness," a case system of how closely skin color, hair texture, and facial features conform to a European ideal. The film traces "colorism" back to the sexual subjugation of black women by slave owners and the preferential treatment their mixed-race children received.
