(Savannah, GA-April 18, 2007) The Office of Minority Affairs at Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) held the 8th annual Minority Academic Achievement Scholars (MACAS) program on April 1. More than 500 minority students were honored based on their academic performance during the spring and fall semesters of 2006.
The MACAS program recognizes minority students in three categories. Students with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.00-3.49 are awarded the academic honor award. Students with a GPA of 3.50-3.99 are awarded the academic achievement award. Students that achieve a 4.00 GPA are awarded a plaque.
The program, held in the Fine Arts Hall Auditorium on the AASU campus, featured musical entertainment by Alicia Mosby, a junior at AASU. Mike Fulford, director of student services at Lanier Technical College, delivered the keynote address. WJCL reporter Candace McCowan called the names of the awardees.
