AASU Foundation Appoints New Board Members


(Savannah, GA-March 1, 2007) The Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) Foundation Board of Trustees announces that community leaders Diana Morrison, owner and president of Advertising Specialty Services; Linda A. Barker, associate broker with Coldwell Banker Platinum Partners; and Judge Tammy Cox Stokes have joined its 23-member board of trustees.

The purpose of the board is to acquire and administer funds and gifts that support the university and its programs. The officers and board of directors regulate and supervise the activities of the foundation.

Morrison, a Savannah resident for 44 years, is owner and president of Advertising Specialty Services, a public relations firm that helps clients brand their identity through customized promotional advertisement.

Morrison served as chair of the first 3 Days for AASU Community Campaign in 2004. She has contributed time and effort to many area organizations, including the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, where she serves as a board member. She has also given her time and talent to other organizations, such as, The Tourism Leadership Council, Buy Local Savannah, YMCA of Coastal Georgia, The Savannah Advertising Federation, the USO /Savannah Board, and others. In recognition of her professional achievements, the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce honored Morrison with its 2003 Helen V. Head Small Business Advocate Award and its 2005 Entrepreneur of the Year award.

Barker, a 1990 graduate of AASU, is an associate broker with Coldwell Banker Platinum Partners in Richmond Hill. Barker specializes in sales of residential and commercial properties, as well as land and property management. She assists first-time buyers and luxury home buyers. She is a member of the Georgia Association of Realtors Convention Committee, Legislative Committee and Political Action Committee. She has served as chairman for the Richmond Hill YMCA and the Coastal Bryan Development Authority.

Barker served on the board of directors of the Home Builders Association of Savannah, Richmond Hill Chapter from 2002-2006. In 2006 she was Realtor of the Year runner-up for the Georgia Association of Realtors.

Recorders Court Judge Tammy Cox Stokes is a native of Savannah and a graduate of Beach High School and the University of Georgia School of Law. Her professional experience includes having been a prosecutor and trial attorney for Dekalb County Juvenile Court and the Dekalb County Solicitors Office. She was also prosecutor and trial attorney for the Fulton County District Attorneys Office and litigator for State Farm Insurance Company and Moran and Boyle in Atlanta before returning to Savannah to open her own law practice.

Stokes, the first African American woman judge in Chatham County, is the vice chair of the Georgia Judicial Training Council and is district representative of the Council of Municipal Court Judges. She's on the boards of the United Way, Leadership Savannah, First City Club, and Advisory Boards of the Junior League and Step Up Savannah. Stokes is also the president of the Port City Bar Association. Further, she and her husband serve as Citizens Advocates for Chatham Savannah Citizens Advocacy.
