AASU Dean of Computing Awarded Sasakawa Fellowship

(Savannah, GA, April 26, 2007) Raymond Greenlaw, dean of the School of Computing at Armstrong Atlantic State University and a professor of computer science, has won a prestigious Sasakawa Fellowship for Japanese Studies. The fellowship will allow Greenlaw to participate in the National Faculty Development program on Japanese studies in San Diego on June 4-22, 2007.

The three-week program is multi-disciplinary in content and designed for faculty who wish to incorporate information about Japan into the courses they teach. The American Association of State Colleges and Universities sponsor the Sasakawa Fellowships.

'Although the Sasakawa Fellowships have traditionally only been awarded to professors in the liberal arts, I decided to apply due to the tremendous influence that Japan has had on technology and because of my interest in Japan,' said Greenlaw.

Greenlaw has made several trips to Japan and has worked at the Human Genome Center at the University of Tokyo. He is also the Distinguished Professor of Computer Science at Chiang Mai University in Thailand, and a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the College of Management and Technology in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

He is the recipient of numerous other international awards including three Senior Fulbright Fellowships (Spain, Iceland, and Thailand), a Humboldt Fellowship, a Japanese Society for Promotion of Science Fellowship, two visiting professor fellowships from Italy, and a Spanish Fellowship for Science and Technology.
