Main Page Contact Michelle Gordon, 912.961.3173 For Immediate Release AASU Celebrates International Week, November 6-11Savannah, GA--October 25, 2005--Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) will host International Week from November 6-11. The celebration will include cultural activities, musical performances, and international foods. All events are free and open to the public. Calendar for International Week: Sunday, November 6 International Festival The International Festival is a sidewalk festival showcasing countries represented by AASU international students and faculty through food, music, and artifacts. Featured musicians Raquy and the Cavemen will perform traditional Middle Eastern rhythms and melodies, with a heavy emphasis on hard rock drumming. This event will be held at the Compass Point Courtyard, from 2-5 p.m. Ten Thousand Villages Gift Festival Since 1946 Ten Thousand Villages, a nonprofit program, has provided vital income to Third World people by marketing their handicrafts and telling their stories in North America. Items from several different collections, including handmade instruments, antiqued paintings, and beautiful basketry, will be sold at the festival. Purchases will help skilled artisans in 32 countries receive a fair price for their handcrafted wares. The garden, which features plazas representing the continents of Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and South America, is located between Hawes and Solms halls. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m., with guided tours beginning at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday, November 10 The Mediterranean Diet Luca Bonomi, Executive Director of Societi Dante Alighieri Comitato Di Siena, Italy will speak about the culture and use of olive oil in Italian cuisine. This event will be held in University Hall, room 156, from 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. A Message of Peace & Reconciliation Joseph Sebarenzi, a survivor of the Rwandan Genocide of 1994 and former head of the Rwandan Parliament, will speak about his belief that peace comes through reconciliation, and not through revenge. He will tell his dramatic and historic story in University Hall, room 156, from 1-3 p.m. There will be a reception following the presentation. Empire ISIS. Empire ISIS burst onto the global music scene with her fresh blend of conscious lyrics over urban and world music rhythms. Inspired by the street sounds of every block from North America to Latin America, she aims to shake the hips and elevate the mind.
