AASU Campaign Comes Knocking on Businesses' Doors

(Savannah, GA-March 14, 2007) Local businesses, large and small, can expect a knock on their door March 27-29, when Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) will deploy a small army of volunteers who will fan out through the community with a goal to raise $250,000.

This is the fourth year of the "3 Days for AASU" community campaign. As in previous years, all funds raised will directly support student scholarships and university programs.

"We're asking all local businesses to open their doors and be generous to AASU," said Jerry Barton, AASU Foundation Board chairman and Savannah city president of Sea Island Bank. "We are providing a valuable service to this community through education and thus elevating the standard of living in the region. We ask all local businesses to support us in this important mission. Pledges can be made now with payment due by December 31, 2007."

Local businessman Padgett Mixon chairs this year's campaign. Janice Woods, senior vice president of First Chatham Bank, serves as chair-elect.

AASU will host a breakfast to kick off this year's campaign at 8 a.m., Monday, March 26, in the Armstrong Center Ballroom. Joe Buck, former AASU vice president for Student Affairs and current president of the board of Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools, will address community, business, and campus leaders.

Armstrong Atlantic's enrollment has grown to more than 6,700 students and the university has an economic impact on Savannah's metropolitan statistical area of more than $162 million. The university's graduates fulfill a large percentage of the region's workforce demands in areas such as health professions and education.
