AASU Appoints Interim Director of University Police(July 2, 2008) Richard J. Conroy has been appointed interim director of University Police at Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU). As interim director he will oversee all aspects of the department and report to AASU Assistant to the President and Chief Information Officer John McGuthry. Conroy began his law enforcement career as a student dispatcher and police aide at the University of Richmond. He graduated from basic law enforcement training at the Henrico County (VA) Police Academy in 1978. He earned reciprocal law enforcement certification in Florida, where he worked for the Kissimmee Police Department as a police officer, K-9 officer, detective, and detective sergeant. Conroy served as an assistant chief at the St. Cloud (FL) Police Department, as a senior regulatory investigator for the Virginia Department of Health Professions, and as a regulatory manager for the Virginia Charitable Gaming Commission. He currently serves as an adjunct faculty member for online programs at Weber State University and Columbia College, MO. Conroy has a career-long interest in crisis intervention and critical incident stress management in law enforcement and emergency services. He is a member of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation and has presented and published on the topic of law enforcement crisis intervention. He is a life member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and a member of the FBI National Academy Associates. He earned a master's in criminal justice administration from Rollins College (FL) and a bachelor in journalism and physical education from the University of Richmond. He is a graduate of the 150th session of the FBI National Academy, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice and a graduate of Virginia's Commonwealth Management Institute. |
