3 Days for AASU Raises $341,378(April 8, 2008) Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) announced the total amount of funds raised during the 3 Days for AASU community campaign at a victory celebration on April 4. Janice Woods, campaign chair, presented a check to AASU President Thomas Z. Jones for $341,378. As in previous years, all dollars raised provide support for student scholarships and university programs. The campaign, now in its fifth year, set a new record, raising 36 percent more than last year. "The business community made it clear once again that it supports the mission of Armstrong Atlantic State University," said Woods, senior vice president of First Chatham Bank. "Business executives recognize that AASU provides excellent higher education opportunities and offers intellectual resources that serve our entire region as well as the state of Georgia." Woods joined President Jones in presenting a special award to Matt Gignilliat, Georgia Power director of regional affairs and economic development for the Coastal Region. Gignilliat was named Outstanding Volunteer of 3 Days for AASU '08 for his commitment and service to the university. Eric R. Winger, president and CEO of the Savannah Economic Development Authority, kicked off this year's campaign by speaking to community leaders and volunteers on the value of higher education in our region. Armstrong Atlantic's enrollment has grown to more than 6,800 students and the university has an annual economic impact on Savannah's metropolitan statistical area of more than $182 million. The university's graduates fulfill a large percentage of the region's workforce demands in areas such as health professions and teacher education. Michael Kemp, vice president of Sea Island Bank, will chair 3 Days for AASU '09. For further information about 3 Days for AASU, contact Suzanne Ansley at 912.921.7496. |
