3 Days for AASU Campaign Exceeds Goal

(Savannah, GA-March 30, 2007) The 3 Days for AASU community campaign came to a close Friday morning during a victory celebration on the Armstrong Atlantic State University campus.

Campaign chair Padgett Mixon and co-chair Janice Woods announced that the campaign raised $251,216, surpassing the goal of $250,000. The campaign seeks support from the local business community.

This is the fourth year of the "3 Days for AASU" community campaign and this year's goal was 25 percent higher than last year. As in previous years, all funds raised will directly support student scholarships and university programs.

"We set a higher bar for this year's campaign and we were able to meet that with the generous support of our friends and partners in the business community," said Mixon, financial consultant for Sea Island Bank.

Woods, senior vice president of First Chatham Bank, will preside as campaign chair next year.

AASU President Thomas Z. Jones was on hand to receive the symbolic check from Mixon and Woods, and to thank them and all volunteers.

Jones extended a special award of appreciation to Jerry Barton for his continued support of Armstrong Atlantic. Barton was named the most valuable volunteer at the victory celebration. He has served as past campaign chair and is currently AASU Foundation Board chairman and city president of Sea Island Bank.

AASU hosted a breakfast on Monday to kick off the campaign with Joe Buck as the keynote speaker. Starting Tuesday, students, AASU Foundation Board trustees, and volunteer leaders canvassed the local business community seeking financial support.

Armstrong Atlantic's enrollment has grown to more than 6,700 students and the university has an economic impact on Savannah's metropolitan statistical area of more than $162 million. The university's graduates fulfill a large percentage of the region's workforce demands in areas such as health professions and teacher education.
