to Host
Statewide Healthcare Workforce Workshop

GAApril 11, 2005 The College of Health Professions at
Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) will host a Healthcare
Workforce Workshop on April 21 and 22. The overall goal of the effort
will be to recommend a set of strategies for the state of Georgia
that will enable it to address healthcare workforce needs for the
next decade and provide an optimal healthcare workforce.
The workshop
is being hosted by AASU in recognition of Georgia's Intellectual Capital
Partnership Program (ICAPP) Health Professions initiative that has
provided resources for AASU's health professions programs. ICAPP is
a statewide public private partnership that to date is funded with
$6.25M state and $6.65M private contributions.
The workshop is an invitation only event with an anticipated attendance
of 100 people. Thomas Meredith, University System of Georgia Chancellor,
will give the opening remarks. David Yoder, Council for Allied Health
in North Carolina, will discuss the health professions workforce;
Michael Toma, associate professor of economics at AASU, will give
the Georgia demographics; and Benjamin Robinson, Georgia Board for
Physician Workforce will discuss the future of health care. Several
breakout sessions will be offered in the following areas: allied health,
dental, pharmacy, behavioral services, and public health.
AASU will work with representatives from the Georgia Department of
Community Health, the Coastal Health District, Memorial Health University
Medical Center, St. Josephs/Candler, Savannah State University,
Savannah Technical College, the University of Georgia, Georgia State
University and the Medical College of Georgia. Other agencies include
the Georgia Hospital Association, the University System of Georgia
central office, the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Georgia
Department of Labor.
