AASU Health Sciences Professor Named Distinguished Researcher

Savannah, GA—November 10, 2004— The Georgia Rural Health Association (GRHA) has named Rod McAdams, assistant professor of health sciences at Armstrong Atlantic State University, "Distinguished Researcher of the Year." He was recognized for his research on rural health issues that was funded by a Robert Wood Johnson Grant. GRHA presents several annual awards to individuals who provide a service to rural populations.

McAdams' research focuses on local funding for rural healthcare services in nine largely rural states throughout the U.S. It expands over a decade's research he conducted in the state of Kansas.

During the last five years, McAdams' research has focused on rural health care. Over the span of his career, he has garnered over 2.8 million dollars in grant funding for research related to rural health, children's health services, and chronic mental illness.

McAdams earned his doctorate in American Studies from the University of Kansas. He has been published in numerous research publications and has served as a consultant to hospitals, state and local government, and other national organizations, including the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Prisons.
