AASU Announces First Recipient of Smith Scholarship

SAVANNAH, GA—November 17, 2003—Armstrong Atlantic State University has announced the first recipient of the William J. Smith, Jr. Memorial Scholarship. Melissa Smith, a senior respiratory therapy major, received the scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Ross Bowers, head of the respiratory therapy department, awarded it during half time of a basketball game that raises funds for the scholarship.

The scholarship was established in memory of William J. Smith, Jr., a professor in the respiratory therapy department from 1982 to 2003. He served as director of clinical education for 10 years was also involved in numerous other campus capacities.
