AASU/MHUMC to Offer Health Workshops in January

Savannah, Ga—December 29, 2003—Armstrong Atlantic State University will offer a series of health workshops, Arm Yourself with Strong Health, Feel Better in 2004, in conjunction with Memorial Health University Medical Center. The lectures will focus on health related issues that affect Savannah residents as part of Student Health Week: January 12-16. They are free and open to the public, and will be held in the University Health Clinic at AASU. Workshops will be held during clinic hours, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, contact Kristan Thompson at 912.961.5726 or clinic@compasspoint.

The University Health Clinic offers medical services for students, faculty, and staff at Armstrong Atlantic. Physical exams, pap smears and pelvic exams, immunizations, treatment of minor injuries, HIV and STD testing, and other services are provided. On Wednesdays, a Women's Clinic is offered to address the unique needs of women, who make up 70% of the university's population.

TUESDAY: OVERWHELMED YET?
Start the year off healthier, learn about the importance of mental and physical health in maintaining a strong mind and a strong body. Free massages will be provided throughout the day courtesy of the Chopra Center at Memorial Health.

FRIDAY: ARM YOURSELF
No one likes to get a shot, but it could save your life. Learn about the importance of vaccines and methods of protecting one’s self against diseases and viruses. Examples: meningitis and mononucleo-sis. Prepare yourself for traveling abroad by knowing what vaccines you will need and what foods and drinks to avoid.

Do you know what to do in the case of a man-made or natural disaster? A representative from SNS (Strategic National Stockpile) will be available to answer questions.
