AMBUCS to Donate 100th AmTryke to Disabled Child

SAVANNAH, GA—January 8, 2004—The Savannah AMBUCs will host an Open House on Tuesday, January 13, to enhance awareness of the community service organization and its service programs. The event will convene at the Fairmont Restaurant, with dinner beginning at 7pm.

From 7:45 to 8:00, AMBUCs will present their 99th and 100th AmTryke tricycles to two children with cerebral palsy or related disorders. The AmTryke, powered by using the arms and legs, can improve the balance, coordination and self confidence of wheelchair bound children. As children ride the bike, there is a good chance their leg muscles will strengthen and their chances of walking will improve. The primary goal is to enable the child to walk as independently as possible.

Patrick All, owner and manager of All Electric Supply, is the sponsor of both bikes that will be given to the children on January 13. He has sponsored 11 AmTrykes since the program began in November 1999. All and his family will be in attendance at the event.

AMBUCS works in partnership with Backus Children's Hospital Pediatric Rehabilitation Center, West Rehab Services, St Joseph's/Candler and Legends Learning Center. Therapists from these facilities assess the children's needs and make recommendations for the bike. Representatives from the centers will be in attendance at the event.

Contact Ross Bowers, head of Armstrong Atlantic State University's Department of Respiratory Therapy, at 912.921.7446 for additional information or to become a sponsor for the bikes. More information about the AmTryke is available at www.ambucs.com.
