Dean Eckert Serves as Panelist at National Conference

Savannah, GA—October 29, 2003—Barry Eckert, dean of College of Health Professions at Armstrong Atlantic State University, was selected to serve recently as a panelist at the "Nursing Education and State Policy: Making the Partnership Work to Address the Nursing Shortage" conference in San Diego, California.

Conference participants explored opportunities for nursing education to better address state nurse workforce needs in five states with significant nurse shortages—California, Georgia, Indiana, Texas, and Utah. Participants examined successful approaches to expanding nursing education and addressing workplace retention of graduating nurses.

Additionally, the panel from Georgia presented "Addressing the Faculty Shortage: Helping Hands from States and Nurse Employers," the state’s innovative approach to addressing nursing workforce needs through expanded educational programs.

Other panelists from Georgia included Ron Dodson, Georgia State Representative; Valerie Hepburn, Georgia Department of Community Health; and Mindy Hartley, St. Joseph/Candler.
