AASU Establishes William J. Smith, Jr. Scholarship

Savannah, GA—Armstrong Atlantic State University has established a scholarship in memory of William J. Smith, Jr., a loyal and dedicated member of AASU's respiratory therapy faculty for the past twenty-one years. The scholarship, created to honor a professor who touched the lives of many people, will benefit students studying respiratory therapy.

Smith joined AASU's faculty in 1982. For the past ten years he enthusiastically served as director of clinical education and in numerous other campus capacities. The consummate family man, he coached soccer and tee ball for the Chatham and Bryan county recreation departments and was active in the Belle Island community organization in Richmond Hill. A devout Catholic, Smith provided many volunteer services to St. Ann’s, including Eucharistic minister, lector, and coordinator of alter services.

Donations may be made to the AASU Foundation and designated to the William J. Smith, Jr. Scholarship Fund. For more information, call Ross Bowers, head of respiratory therapy at AASU, at 912.921.5884.
