Savannah, GAThe 2002 graduates of the Medical Technology Program
at Armstrong Atlantic State University successfully completed the
National Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) certification examination.
All eleven graduates passed the exam with a 531 mean score (the national
average pass rate was sixty-four percent with a 454 mean score). The
graduates also scored higher than the university-based graduates in
all seven categories of the exam.
The ASCP Board of Registry is an independent certification agency,
which assures the competence of medical laboratory personnel in the
nation. Its mission is to promote the public health and safety by
the appropriate application of pathology and laboratory medicine and
enhance the quality of pathology and laboratory medicine by developing
comprehensive educational programs and materials.
AASUs Medical Technology Program provides students with a high
quality academic and professional environment allowing for the development
of their intellectual and manipulative competencies and attainment
of professional values and characteristics. Inherent to this purpose
is the goal to prepare a competent clinical laboratory general practitioner.
Continued assessment of the educational program permits revision to
meet professional needs and assure the best in patient care.
