Students Measure Lung Capacity,
Collect Blood Samples at Respiratory Therapy Open House

SAVANNAH, GA—The Department of Respiratory Therapy at Armstrong Atlantic State University will host an open house December 5 for students enrolled in advanced physiology classes at Bryan County High School. The event will be held from 10:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. in room 131 of Ashmore Hall as part of Respiratory Care Week.

Students will try their hands at measuring lung capacity, collecting blood samples from an arterial puncture arm, and analyzing blood gases among other procedures being demonstrated during this year's open house. State-of-the-art life support systems and other interactive equipment will be on display to stimulate the students' interest in medical and other health care professions.

Faculty will be on hand to answer questions and make presentations on various topics, including a discussion on how to evaluate a chest radiograph. Other demonstrations will include intubation and airway care, ventilator technology, and spirometry. The event is free and open to the public.
