AASU to Hold Nursing as a Second Career
Exposition
on September 9
Savannah, GAArmstrong Atlantic State University and The Coastal Georgia Nursing Consortium (CGNC) will hold an exposition on Nursing as a Second Career on September 9. Representatives from educational institutions and medical facilities will present information on academic and employment opportunities in the region. The event will be begin at 6:00 P.M. at the Hyatt Regency, located at 2 West Bay Street in Savannah.
"A critical shortage of nurses is creating a crisis in health care that impacts both the preparation of nurses and the ability to provide quality care in the region," said Helen Taggart, professor of nursing at Armstrong Atlantic State University. "The coalition's primary purpose is the recruitment and retention of nurses."
The target audience for the new program is individuals seeking a rewarding second career in nursing. Studies have shown that second career individuals are mature adults who are committed to and vested in their communities.
Representatives from education will be on hand to present the baccalaureate, associate, and licensed practical nurse degree programs. Information on academic requirements as well as financial assistance will be provided. Representatives from medical facilities in Savannah, Statesboro, Brunswick, St. Mary's, Beaufort, and Hilton Head will be present to discuss employment opportunities.
CGNC was established in response to the critical shortage of nurses in the region. The consortium is made up of members representing Armstrong Atlantic State University, Coastal Georgia Community College, Georgia Southern University, Ogeechee Technical College, and Savannah Technical College.
