AASU to Celebrate National R.N. Recognition Day April 29

SAVANNAH, GA—The Department of Nursing at Armstrong Atlantic State University will celebrate National R.N. Recognition Day on April 29 as part of National Nurses Week. "Nurses Care for America" is the theme for the celebration this year nationally. The event will be held from 11:30 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. in room 224 of AASU’s Ashmore Hall.

"Nursing faculty will share stories and experiences from their nursing school days," said Rose Powell, professor of nursing at AASU. "Faculty members received their education from all parts of North America and have had professional experiences in regions throughout the world. Our goal is to prepare students to return to the world as competent practicing nurses."

In honor of RN Recognition Day, registered nurses around the country are encouraged to wear the official "R.N. Pin" and dress in uniform for that day. A picture displaying AASU's faculty nursing pins will be unveiled during the event and will be on display in the library through May 6. Also on display will be two display cases filled with nursing memorabilia.

Traditionally, National Nurses Week is devoted to highlighting the diverse ways in which registered nurses, the largest health care profession, are working to improve health care. From bedside nursing in hospitals and long-term care facilities to the halls of research institutions, state legislatures, and Congress, the depth and breadth of the nursing profession is meeting the expanding health care needs of American society.
