AASU's Smith to Lecture on Editing a Literary Journal

Savannah, GA—August 27,2004—James Smith, associate professor of English at Armstrong Atlantic State University, will give a lecture on "Editing a Literary Journal: Southern Poetry Review (SPR) at Armstrong" as part of the Robert Ingram Strozier Faculty Lecture Series on September 10. The lecture will begin at 12:15 p.m. in University Hall room 156. It is free and open to the public.

SPR, founded in 1958 by Guy Owen and the second oldest poetry journal in the region, has a long and prestigious history in contemporary American literature. Smith’s presentation will focus on current efforts to keep the journal a vibrant presence in today’s literary marketplace, and for its future. He also will discuss the challenges and pleasures of the editorial process, illustrating along the way the kinds of poetry SPR currently publishes.
