AASU's Taylor to Lecture on Standardized Test Scores in Chatham County Public Schools

Savannah, GA—October 1, 2003—Stephen Taylor, associate professor of psychology at Armstrong Atlantic State University, will give a lecture on "Standardized Test Scores in Chatham County Public Schools: What Can They Tell Us?" as part of the Robert Ingram Strozier Faculty Lecture Series on October 17. The lecture will begin at 12:15 p.m. in University Hall room 156. It is free and open to the public.

The standardized achievement test performance of public school students in Chatham County is alarming, with many schools falling well below state and national averages. This talk will present recent findings by Taylor and his associates, analyzing correlations between ethnicity, socioeconomic status, racial integration, and recent test scores. Taylor will discuss related issues, such as factors beyond the control of teachers and administrators, usefulness of the data when demographics are not controlled or considered, and test scores for private schools.
