AASU/School District to Host Middle Grades Conference

Savannah, GA—October 1, 2003—The College of Education at Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) and Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools will host their Sixth Annual Middle Grades Collaborative Regional Conference on October 10. The conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Coastal Georgia Continuing Education Center. Parents of middle school children and anyone interested in attending are welcome.

"Engaging Students for Success" is the theme of the conference. Suttiwan Cox, director of KIPP: PATH Academy, will deliver the keynote address on mutliculturalism. Armstrong Atlantic’s College of Education faculty and school district middle school teachers also will make presentations. Topics relating to leadership, technology, language arts, and stress management will be covered.

"AASU and the local school board are working together to develop the best teaching practices," said Brenda Logan, assistant professor of middle, secondary, and adult education at AASU and conference co-chair. "We are also exploring professional development opportunities that will empower our teachers to make a greater impact on our children’s lives."
